Our Story

In many ways, Folks Southern Kitchen got its start in 1978 as PoFolks.  Rick Pratt started the first PoFolks in the Atlanta area and grew the company to become the largest and most successful in the national system.  In 1994, Rick took the best parts of PoFolks and added his own fresh home-made recipes building his VERY-own family oriented restaurant, Folks Southern Kitchen.

At Folks, Rick emphasized fresh food and fast friendly service, at affordable prices.  And for the past 30 years, Folks has grown all over Atlanta.  The restaurant has won awards for "Atlanta's Best Fried Chicken" and "Best Southern Sweet Iced Tea".  Of course, there's other great stuff on the menu - grilled, baked or fried.  And oh my, veggies galore.  Over a dozen to choose from.

The reason Rick has been so successful is really simple.  He listens to his guests.  He learns what they want in a restaurant - a quality family place, good food, at great value.  And now guests want to be able to get in and out quickly, but demand better quality and value than fast food.

Rick has taken those wonderful Folks' recipes and served them up in a new restaurant concept.  He has created a new "fast-casual" restaurant that allows you to get in and get out quickly.  You order at the counter, get your drink and find a seat.  The friendly staff brings the delicious Southern cooking to your table, so you can eat it at your own pace.  Or, you can use the drive-thru and keep moving.  Rick and Folks introduce to you, the "Rusty Rooster Cafe".

At The Rooster, you can start the morning with a country breakfast.  And you're going to die for their "Big Biscuits" every day.  And for lunch and dinner you'll find the same kinds of offerings you've loved at Folks.  Yep, Rick has created two distinct restaurants offering his famous Southern Cooking - the traditional restaurant Folks.  And the new "fast-casual" Rusty Rooster Cafe.  Come join us.
